What is Reiki?
Reiki is a Japanese hands-on healing therapy. It is used to promote overall health and well-being. Reiki (Pronounced “RAY-key”) restores balance to the body’s energy system at physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual levels.
Reiki is one of the Fastest Growing Complementary Healing Techniques
The National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAM) at the National Institute of Health classifies Reiki as “biofield therapy” or “energy medicine”
Reiki may be used as Self-Treatment or for Treatment of Others
It is practiced in homes, clinics, hospitals, nursing homes, and spas throughout the world. Reiki is not a substitute for standard medical care, but can enhance the effectiveness of conventional care.
Reiki is Safe, Gentle, and Non-Invasive
During a Reiki treatment, the client lies fully clothed on a massage table. The Reiki therapist places their hands on or slightly above the client along major organs, endocrine system and chakras. There is no manipulation of muscle or tissue. The energy flow is deeply relaxing, and the client may feel warmth, a mild coolness, a slight tingling, or light pulsing sensation. After a session, the client generally feels a deep sense of relaxation and an enhanced sense of well-being. Each Reiki session is unique.
How Often Do People get Reiki Treatments?
First Visit or for a Specific Ailment
To experience the true effect of balancing your energy, I recommend once a week for three to five weeks. Although people report a feeling of relaxation, both physically and mentally after just one session, three to five weeks gives your body and emotional system an opportunity to respond and have your energies balanced.
People should receive Reiki on a regular basis every four to six weeks to keep the energy balanced and enhance the immune system. Often people have a sense of “knowing” when they are stressed or their energy is low and they need to “boost” their energy with a Reiki healing.
Who Can Benefit From Reiki?
Clinical studies have shown that Reiki can relax the body, relieve pain, improve sleep, clear toxins and boost the immune system. Reiki benefits the healthy and those with illness and is valuable for all ages.
Stress Management and Relaxation: Reiki reduces stress, restores vitality, and brings relaxation and peace into your life. One hour of Reiki therapy is equivalent to several hours of sleep, allowing the body’s natural healing system to work more efficiently.
Chronic Illness: With regular treatments, Reiki helps balance the body, manage symptoms, and enhance conventional treatment for patients with chronic illnesses such as fibromyalgia, arthritis, tension headaches, sleep disorders, and many other illnesses.
Cancer Patients: Reiki supports the physical body while calming the fears and anxiety that accompany a cancer diagnosis. Reiki can complement conventional therapies by helping to reduce pain and eliminate toxins to minimize the side effects of chemotherapy and radiation.
Pre- and Post-Surgery: Reiki prepares the body at physical, mental, emotional and spiritual levels prior to surgery. Post-surgery, Reiki can help to reduce pain and promote healing, while enhancing conventional therapies and pain medication.
Prenatal and Postpartum: Reiki can provide the mother and baby with physical, mental and emotional support prior to and after delivery. Physical issues such as back pain and nausea, as well as anxieties and fears can be addressed and complement conventional therapies.
Hospice: Reiki can balance the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual body, and may provide a sense of calm, peace, and acceptance for patients.
Caregivers: Reiki is an easy way for caregivers to care for themselves. Reiki can help relieve stress, anxiety, and fear, while restoring balance to their physical, mental, and emotional body.
Grieving: Because Reiki is healing at mental, emotional, and spiritual levels, it can promote a faster release of emotions and anxiety, and provide a sense of calm and peace.
Spirituality: Reiki can be a path to connect with ones purpose in life and to gain new insights. Reiki often complements other energy healing modalities or spiritual practices such as prayer, meditation, massage, yoga, tai chi, or chi/qi gong.
Creativity: Many in the creative arts find that Reiki can support and enhance their creative endeavors. Since Reiki works at deeper subconscious emotional and mental levels, visualization and mental clarity are often stimulated and enhanced.
